**The winery's flagship wine takes its name from the estate, the ca'marcanda, the house of endless negotiations. The name refers to the many hours that Angelo Gaja spent convincing the property's previous owners to sell the estate vineyard that produces this wine to him. This vineyard is one of the stoniest sites of the Ca'Marcanda estate in Castegneto Carducci (Bolgheri). Its 100% terre bianche (white soils) are ideal for producing long-lived, structured wines.**

Wine Advocate 96 Points
The 2010 Bolgheri Camarcanda is an exceptional wine with a level of aromatic intensity and integrity that is impossible to exaggerate. The blend is Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, in that order of importance. The bouquet is impeccable and refined, with deep layers of Morello cherry, cassis, dried blackberry and spice that peel back in quick succession. The oak component is beautifully integrated, imparting notes of chocolate and tobacco that complete this beautiful portrait of Tuscan winemaking. Hold this bottle for a few more years.

Wine Spectator 95 Points
Powerful, showing cherry, blackberry, cedar and oak spice flavors. The tannins are mouthcoating, but all the elements dovetail on the long finish. The aftertaste is fresh, echoing fruit and toasted oak. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2016 through 2030. 900 cases made.

James Suckling 94 Points
A delicious young red from Bolgheri with fresh dark fruits and a clean finish. Full body and fine tannins. Slightly chewy but the tannins show a lovely texture. This wine still needs time to soften in bottle.

Tasting Notes
Deep red in color. The nose is rich in fruit and multi-layered aromas. Complex taste with firm tannic structure. Densely woven with an expressive mineral character.

The Winery
The Gaja Winery was founded by Giovanni Gaja in 1859 and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. Giovanni Gaja was the great-grandfather of Angelo Gaja, the Winery’s current owner. In 1994, GAJA acquired its first wine estate in Tuscany, Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino. This estate produces three Brunello di Montalcino wines- including the single vineyard Sugarille- from vineyard holdings totaling sixty five acres. In 1996 Gaja acquired a second property in Tuscany, Ca’Marcanda, located in Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri. Of the property’s 200 acres, 150 have been planted with new vineyards: primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as Cabernet Franc and Syrah. BottleCurrently, the Gaja Winery owns 250 acres of vineyards in Piedmont, located in the Barbaresco district (Barbaresco and Treiso) and the Barolo district (Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra). Since its inception, the Gaja Winery has continuously evolved in ways that have always focused on meticulous care of and attention to the quality of its wines.
