Ripe, jammy, grapy aromas and flavors and a lush but firm texture make this medium-bodied wine instantly appealing and enjoyable to drink. It has nicely concentrated fruit flavors, a sense of depth and a beautiful, velvety texture.

Tasting Notes

Jammy fruit from beginning to end—starting with aromas of blueberry pie, nutmeg and pepper. In the mouth, flavors expand to include boysenberry, plum, blueberry and spice. This full bodied wine has a bold tannin structure and balanced acidity that lead to a long finish. This big wine is anything but “petite."

Food Pairings
Goes well with mixed grilled vegetables and slow roasted short ribs.

Winemaker Notes
Grapes were hand harvested in the cool of the night to retain every ounce of flavor before being taken immediately to the winery where they were de-stemmed into small lot fermenters. After a brief cold soak, the must was slowly warmed, which enhanced color and flavor extraction. The wine’s fermentation regime is designed to highlight Petite Sirah at its best-—big color, bold blueberry fruit flavor and assertive tannic structure. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak to soften and integrate the tannins. We added a touch of Zinfandel for a bit of pepper and spice. Just prior to bottling, the wine was transferred to tank with minimal filtration to ensure the maximum expression of the wine’s dark fruit flavors and aromas.

Lavish fruit and extravagant spicy oak flavors balance each other well in this big, showy, dark and tannic wine. The color is black almost to the rim, and it has plenty of body, thick tannins and concentrated boysenberry flavors. Best now through 2019.

A really nice evocation of this variety, this is made in a soft style, with a Merlot-like velvety texture. But there’s nothing shy about the flavors: It bursts with ripe, jammy cherry, grilled pancetta, crushed pepper and sandalwood, and has a long, spicy finish.
