Hess Select Wines
Introduced by Donald Hess in 1989 and are made by the family-owned Hess Collection Winery in Napa Valley. Grapes for our Hess Select wines are carefully chosen by our winemaker from vineyards in Napa Valley, Monterey County and other family-owned vineyards along California’s North Coast.
2009 Monterey Chardonnay
Monterey’s cooling fog and coastal breezes create an ideal climate for growing Chardonnay, yielding wines with tantalizing tropical notes and crisp acidity. The core of this wine comes from our 352-acre Shirtail Creek estate vineyard in Monterey’s coastal valley.
Tropical aromas of freshly-cut pineapple and ripe pear. A soft entry of well-balanced fruit and oak persists all the way to a pleasing finish of honeydew melon and crème brûlée.
This wine’s natural acidity complements tangy, spicy foods and will offset the richness of creamier dishes. Enjoy with Asian chicken salad, grilled tuna with melted anchovy butter and lemon, or a creamy pasta dish with Portobello mushrooms.
The 2009 growing season started out easy with little frost. The spring and summer
weather was moderate and without heat spikes, allowing the physiological and sugar
ripening of the berries to stay in balance. The crop size in most areas was average to above average and white wines from 2009 came off with bright, vibrant flavors.
