The harmonious 2013 Triple C had much better integrated oak than the 2011 I tasted last time. From Maipo, it is a Bordeaux blend of 65% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Carménère, which now seems to be constant across vintages. It has a classical nose mixing black and red fruit with spices and an herbal touch. The palate is medium-bodied and revealed fine tannins, good balance and good freshness.

Tasting Notes
This superb wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, three varieties originally from Bordeaux that have been carefully cultivated by Santa Rita. Triple C benefits from the best of the Old and New World, combining the elegance of traditional grape varieties with state-of-the-art New World wine making techniques. The specially selected grapes are grown at Santa Rita's Alto Jahuel Estate in Maipo Valley.

Well-developed bouquet with a rich combination of blackcurrant and the floral nuances associated with delicate undertones of graphite, tar, chocolate and vanilla.Elegant and well structured, this wine has an excellent balance and wonderful persistence.

Food Pairings
Delicious with wild game and fowl, ripe cheeses, and spicy red meats. The wine is unfiltered in order to completely maintain its character, therefore we recommend decanting it before serving.

The Winery
Heritage and enterprise are hallmarks of Santa Rita, one of Chile's premier wine estates. Founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernandez in Chile's Maipo Valley, this historic property was among the first to pioneer plantings of European grape varieties in Chile.

In 1980, it was acquired by its present owner, Ricardo Claro, under whom Santa Rita has reaped the rewards of continuous investment, resulting in a period of impressive growth, during which the winery has consolidated its position in the vanguard of Chile's most successful and innovative estates. Initiatives include the highly successful launch of Santa Rita’s 120 Series of wines and a range of ultra-premium wines, notably the highly acclaimed Casa Real and Triple C. Wide-ranging enhancements embrace the purchase of choice new vineyards, plantings with top quality clones, improved trellising and irrigation, balanced viticulture, restricted yields, later harvesting, individual block farming, small-lot vinification, and an increased emphasis on sustainable agriculture.

Today Santa Rita exports to more than 70 countries worldwide. The property accounts for outstanding vineyards in Chile’s most important appellations - the Maipo Valley; Casablanca; Rapel; Apalta; Leyda and Curico - enabling access to diverse climates and terrain.

Santa Rita's home base is in Alto Jahuel, in the southern reaches of the Alto Maipo. Farther from the influence of the mountains than vineyards to the north, closer to Santiago, Alto Jahuel tends to be warmer. Any effect of that warmth, however, is diminished in this wine from the cold 2011 vintage. A blend of cabernet franc (65%) plus cabernet sauvignon and carmenere, it's firm and rich, layered with black currant, dark cherry and plum flavors over a dense network of tannins. Still youthful, this could use five years in the cellar before opening it for grilled pork chops.

($40) Aromas of tobacco, vanilla and licorice are nicely intermixed with black fruit scents. The palate on this blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère is hard driving and focused. Flavors of plum, currant and spice hold steady across a tannic, mildly abrasive finish. Drink through 2020.

Flavors of dark berry fruits are accented by mint, coffee and chocolate, while the finish hits with controlled heat and herbal berry flavors. A blend based on cabernet franc (55 percent) with cabernet sauvignon and carmenere, this is a powerful Triple C with muscular black fruit. The concentration is matched by tannins as strong as steel girders. Despite being six years old, it seems not to have aged at all. Cellar it a few more years to let the wine's complexity develop.

($40) Big, juicy and lush-tasting, with impressive length and power to the dark chocolate, cassis, black olive and slate flavors. Very broad and intense midpalate, offering hints of cream and cardamom. The succulent finish is supported by muscular tannins. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère. The 2007 Triple C is a blend of 65% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Carmenere that is aged in new French oak for 20 months. The palate is full-bodied with succulent, ripe tannins, lovely red berry fruit laced with balsamic and orange rind that leads to a nicely composed, muscular finish that manages to retain fine focus. The oak is neatly folded into this red blend and it should merit a couple ofyears in bottle.

Smells like fortified wine and licorice at first, then more like earth and smoked meat. High acidity gives this blend a racy quality but also astringency, while flavors of blackberry, prune and licorice are very nice.
